| Introduction
to China Academy of Engineering Physics |
Founded in 1958, China Academy of Engineering Physics
(CAEP) is a multidisciplinary complex specialized
in research, experiment, design and production for
defense. The academy¡¯s main base, known as the Science
City, is situated by the beautiful Fujiang River,
in Mianyang of Sichuan, covering an area of about
4 square kilometers. In addition, the academy has
branch offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and
Chengdu.
Subdivided into 12 institutes and 5 national key
laboratories, CAEP is chiefly engaged in the following
research fields: shock wave and detonation physics,
nuclear and plasma physics, engineering and material
science, electronics and electrooptics, radiochemistry
and chemical engineering, computer and computational
mathematics.
CAEP has a faculty of over 8000 professional members,
among whom there are such distinguished scientists
and prize-winners as Yu Min, Wang Ganchang, Deng
jiaxian, Zhu Guangya, Chen Nengkuan, Zhou Guangzhao,
Guo Yonghuai, Cheng Kaijia, Peng Huanwu. Currently,
among the CAEP staff members, there are 11 academicians
of the Chinese Academy of Science, and 12 academicians
of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and master
degrees in 8 and 14 fields, respectively. It also
offers post-doctorate positions in mathematics,
physics, and nuclear science.
In recent years, following the reform and opening-up
policy, CAEP has diversified into new fields of
research activities by transferring defense technology
to civilian development and production, thus doing
its share of developing the national economy.
Bearing in mind their obligations in contributing
to China`s development, CAEP staff members fully
understand the opportunities they have and the challenges
they face, and would keep forging ahead in building
up CAEP into a world famous base for scientific
research and technological development. |
